Submitted by admin on Fri, 05/10/2013 - 04:27We have seen how iTunes cryptic numeric error codes can be a huge pain to understand and solve. Imagine the confusion and frustration when an application clearly shows the error and it's solution but refuses to work even after the remedy, while WhatsApp for PC is definetly a good idea using it on mobile platform is the intended usage. I recently came across an strange error on my friends WhatsApp install on an Google Android tablet where it refused to launch showing "Your phone date is inaccurate! Sadly, Unrar 4.1 is not available as a package in the RasPi repo. However, users can still download and install it using the following commands :
wget http://files.tobiass.eu/unrar_4.1.4-1_armhf.deb

Solution for A Particular WiFi Access Point Not Visible
Submitted by admin on Tue, 04/16/2013 - 01:03Imagine the confusion when your WiFi network is showing all available WiFi access points in the neighborhood except the one you want to connect to, adding more confusion - the same access-point is visible and connectable from other devices. Since, your WiFi access-point is visible from other devices and your WiFi client can see other access-point we can be sure that the two particular devices are working fine and are only having issues communicating to each other.
I recently encountered the same with my TECH-COM USB Wireless LAN Adapter, and the issue was this particular USB adaptor not able to work with WiFi channel 13. I even tried changing the WiFi channel properties by navigating to "Advanced" properties tab but this one simply refused to work. To get things back to a working state, I had to change WiFi channel back to 6 at the WiFi router.

How to fix unbootable Raspberry Pi after rpi-update
Submitted by admin on Sun, 04/14/2013 - 22:01rpi-update is an excellent utility to get all the latest updates and patches for your Raspberry Pi Debian operating-system. But being a utility which downloads and installs all the latest, cutting-edge core OS components it can mess things at times. A recent bad core-patch made Raspberry Pi unbootable for many, after downloading all the files successfully the RPi will fail to boot with the red LED on and green LED flashing 3 times telling a problem with boot files.
To fix this Raspberry Pi boot issue, first we need to take out the SD card and plug-in to another computer. Now, edit config.txt file and edit gpu_mem value to 16 (gpu_mem=16) as shown below, this make your RPi bootable.

However, this will still make RPi unbootable if you ever change this value. To permanently fix this issue, copy all files from the SD card residing under the /boot directory (FAT partition) to a temp directory - now quick format the SD card boot directory and then copy-back the files read earlier. This fixes the FAT filesystem corruption due to a bad patch.

- Wireless Slow
As per the standard design all Wi-Fi equipments must share spectrum bandwidth which are spaced around multiple channels bands with other networks in the same operational environment. Many neighbouring WiFi devices sharing or overlapping a channel can slow down the performance of all Wi-Fi networks on that channel, and therefore utilizing a WiFi scanner to analyze and fix proper channel usage is highly advisable for optimal wireless performance.
We will be using free WiFi scanner and analyzer inSSIDer (available on Windows, Mac and Android platforms) to tackle this need for us. inSSIDer Wi-Fi network discovery tool conveniently visualizes all wireless hotspot’s in your devices range complete with information of there MAC address, encryption, signal strength and channel allowing users to troubleshoot numerous WiFi related issues.
The way WiFi channels work, one can make use of the information analyzed and visualized using inSSIDer to fine tune wireless bandwidth usage for maximum throughput and minimum interference as described ahead.

As you can see the way wireless bandwidth channels work, There are 14 channels designated in the 2.4 GHz WiFi range spaced 5 MHz apart with adjacent channels overlapping and interfering with each other. As evident from the diagram shared below, using channels 1, 6, 11 is recommended for the minimum overlapping and interference avoidance. A user must also make sure to use the least congested channel availble for best results.
