No Internet Connection?

I'm running Acrobat Reader in a VMware that doesn't have a connection to the internet. After starting the Updater, it returns with a message saying
"No Internet connection was found. Please check your Internet setting or firewall."
And I only get an option to "Cancel" - no preferences button!

Is there any way to disable the update feature without internet access?
