Posting and receiving updates via SMS is one of the most important feature every Twitter users wants, sadly, free SMS notifications from twitter are not sent to all countries citing texting costs - the good news is that Airtel users in India can now enjoy receiving free SMS notifications from Twitter and posting updates to twitter @ Re.1/SMS using the newly introduced 53000 short-code for Airtel India users.
To get started simply SMS START to 53000 and follow instructions to complete linking your device to twitter, if you are new to twitter SMS Signup to 53000 (all SMS's to short-code 53000 costs Re 1), somehow sending the above commands did not worked for me so I used another approach as instructed next.
Since for some reason linking my mobile device via START command on Airtel was not working, I simply linked my mobile using the Devices page texting the confirmation code to Airtel twitter short-code 53000 which did the trick.
