Ultrasn0w Carrier Unlock Updated To Work With Baseband Later Than 05.13.04

The most widely used iOS software unlock Ultrasn0w just got updated by parent iPhone Dev Team to support carrier-unlocking on any baseband later than 05.13.04 for iPhone3G/3GS owners. This unlock is interestingly using the exploited AT+XAPP command security-hole which was actually plugged-in by Apple but it turned out that the very first iPad firmware 3.2.2 has baseband version 06.15.00 which is still vulnerable to AT+XAPP exploit and since the iPad baseband is built for the exact same baseband-chip as the iPhone3G/3GS what we have is an exploit with a carrier unlock for these devices. In simpler terms iPhone 3G/3Gs owners can unlock their devices running iOS 4.1/4.2 but there are some risks as posted next.

Flash Enabled Skyfire Web Browser Available On Apple Store

Skyfire is a popular mobile web-browser available on Windows Mobile, Google Android, and Symbian platforms, unlike other mobile web-browsers Skyfire renders requested webpages on a proprietary server and then relays the result to end user's mobile phone. Using the same server-side rendering technology Skyfire is now available on Apple iOS letting users enjoy Adobe Flash powered videos on webpages which is not natively supported. While Flash has already been ported to some extent on iOS via Project Frash but Skyfire is available via official Apple Store and does not require a jailbroken phone to work like Frash.

Apple Forces Baseband Requirement For iOS 4.2.1 Update

Developer of popular TinyUmbrella application has confirmed an interesting development on Apple's strategy to block carrier-unlockers, starting from recently released iOS 4.2.1 Apple seem to be enforcing a minimum baseband (bootrom) version requirement for users trying to upgrade their firmware. Users have resorted on tools like TinyUmbrella and Sn0wbreeze to update their device firmware to latest version keeping an older unlockable baseband version letting them enjoy the newest Apple iOS version while retaining a carrier-unlocked phone, this has changed for now until someone hacks their way-in finding a new way to get around this. The worst part is that if you try to use an older baseband updating to stock iOS 4.2.1 you will be stuck in recovery mode with no option but to restore back to iOS 4.1 or iOS 4.2.1 which means no carrier-unlock.

"Will there be a jailbreak for devices that shipped with 4.0.2/3.2.2, out of the box? No, there won’t be" - iPhone Dev Team

Apple has closed the PDF security vulnerability which is being exploited by the easiest jailbreak ever at jailbreakme.com and new iDevices are now being shipped with secure iOS Firmware 4.0.2/3.2.2, moments ago the iPhone Dev Team has posted the answer to the obvious question users were thinking of "What Now, will there be a jailbreak for iOS 4.02/3.2.2 ?" and the answer from The Dev team is :

"No, there won’t be. FW 4.0.2/3.2.2 was *only* released to fix the jailbreakme hole. With FW 4.1 still in its beta stages, it makes no sense to escalate the “cat & mouse” with Apple for FW updates that only fix the jailbreak holes. To quote WOPR, “the only winning move is not to play”.

If the cat & mouse game escalates too quickly, especially during beta FW periods, nobody but Apple benefits. For this reason, there won’t be a 4.0.2/3.2.2 jailbreak specifically during the period where 4.0.2/3.2.2 is the latest public release. At best, some future 4.1x FW jailbreak *may* be compatible with 4.0.2/3.2.2 (but don’t count on that).
