First 3D Printed Gun Sketches Released Publicly, United States Department of Defense Bans The Files, Pirate Bay Takes Over Distribution

As planned DEFCAD released the fully 3D printable gun sketches online which clocked up more than 100,000 downloads within its first two days of release. Soon after getting popular the United States Department of Defense kicked in and censored the file downloads claiming control of the information. However, 3D printable CAD files for the world's first 3D printable pistol named "Liberator" are still available for download on numerous other file-sharing portals and torrent websites like ThePirateBay.

It seems the censorship by United States Department of Defense, and the media coverage it resulted eventually lead to the issue and files getting more limelight and publicity. Resulting to this popularity, the full first page of ThePirateBay's 3D file section is now populated with various torrents of these files only.

The team behind DefenseDistributed.com, the much talked about open-source, free to download and 3D printable lethal gun project have announced there next initiative - an uncensored search engine for open source 3D printed weapons and it's parts.

After being censored and criticized for providing lethal weapons without regulation in hands of general public, DefenceDistributed has now came up with the plan to host its own search engine for all types of 3D printable files, which will be free from censorship and government takedowns.

Using this new, now readily available technology a team of friends who like to call themselves "Defense Distributed", has now launched the project "Wiki Weapon Project" with aim to design the world’s first 3D printable gun. To get a gun all a user need to do is to download the free sketch file from Internet and 3D print it.
