M4VGear DRM Media Converter review

Apple has, since 2009, made all its music in the iTunes store DRM-free. Unfortunately this has not been the case for videos for rent or purchase. This is why the M4VGear DRM Media Converter is such an innovative tool as it easily allows one to strip the DRM from any video file downloaded from the iTunes store.

Fixing "The program can't start because the detoured.dll is missing from your computer." Error On Windows

Majority of Windows users face missing .dll file errors every now and then, but missing detoured.dll takes the prize for being the most annoying of them all. Unlike other missing .dll errors this will popup with message "The program can't start because the detoured.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." everytime an .exe file is launched on your computer either manually by the user or via autostart.

On the computer I diagnosed this, the error was being flashed 7-10 times on every boot and one needs to close each prompt, on further digging I found detoured.dll is infact part of an Microsoft Research technology named "Detours" which allowed hooks into every application launched on Windows OS (scary!!!). Having such a dll on a computer without any specific use-case was not acceptable so I devoted time to get rid of this error without the need to re-install this dll in my System folder.

If you are using multiple NIC's (Network Adapters) to access more than one network, it gets tricky from where you internet connection comes from. Here is one such scenario and solution to make Microsoft Windows prioritize internet connection from a particular network over the other. In my example setup I have one LAN connection (192.168.0.1) and one WiFi connection (192.168.1.1) and would like Windows to use internet from my fixed-line broadband connected via LAN.

How to convert .CDR to .ISO and make a bootable USB disk

File-format incompatibility between Apple Mac OS and Microsoft Windows operating-systems is something every user faces utilizing both operating-systems. One such incompatibility is the disk-image format used by both operating-systems, while Apple Mac OS uses .CDR format Microsoft Windows utilizes the international disk-imaging standard .ISO, so you would need something to convert .CDR to .ISO file-format and vice-versa to use them under rival operating-systems. Luckily, the only difference between two is the file-extension, and all one needs to do is to change the .ISO/.CDR extension to make them work interchangeably without any real file-format conversion. We can also use this fact to make perfectly bootable USB disks from .CDR files from Windows and Linux using existing tools allowing cloning of .ISO format to USB.
